Colorado Casinos & Gambling Guide

Your source for information on the Colorado casinos in Black Hawk, Central City, Cripple Creek, Ignacio and Towaoc. We include up-to-date casino contact information for all casinos in Colorado plus we have casino pictures, casino transportation information, information on lodging and hotels near Colorado casinos and vital information you should have about Colorado gaming in general.

Colorado Casinos & Gambling

Colorado had indian gaming long before it passed a limited stakes gambling bill in 1991 that allowed limited stakes gaming ($5 maximum bet limit) in the historic gold mining towns of Blackhawk, Central City and Cripple Creek.

In the beginning everything seemed good natured about preserving the historic districts and bringing in an economy. Well there certainly is an economy there now but many will question how much history has been preserved within.

Colorado casino gambling is growing by leaps and bounds. There is fresh news about Colorado gambling everyday. There is always expansion in one of the gaming towns someway or another.

Already in 2004 we have seen the opening of two casinos in Cripple Creek – the Gold Creek Casino and the Wild Horse Casino.

There are now rumors of a new Indian Casino, first dubbed "The Cheyenne Apache Homecoming Project," moving it sights to Central City as that town begins to finish up their direct exit off of Interstate 70.

Harveys Wagon Wheel Hotel & Casino has long since become Fortune Valley Hotel & Casino.

The Isle of Capri Hotel & Casino has now purchased Colorado Central Station and is currently building a new hotel and parking garage between the two which current rumor has including a pedestrian bridge to link everything together.

The Gilpin Hotel Casino has a new face. Doc Holliday's Casino in Central City has moved to the Old Glory Hole Casino building... Never a dull moment in Colorado casinos!

Colorado Slots, Poker & Blackjack

First off if you are a poker player or blackjack, please join the Colorado Gambling Forum where we have been trying to get discussion etc... started.

There are plenty of slots to choose from in Colorado. Most are manufactured by IGT or Aristocrat machines. There is plenty of video poker, too from Jacks or Better to just about anything you want. Payback rate is pretty good, too – with perfect strategy! There are statewide progressive slots and inhouse progressives in every denomination from penny slots to five dollar slots. There are rumors of the stakes (limits) being raised sometime soon.

Live blackjack and poker tables are available in the larger casinos and some of the smaller casinos, too. There is also three card poker available with live dealers. Texas Hold'em seems to be the most common and popular poker game played in the gambling towns. The Lodge Hotel & Casino has the largest poker room in Black Hawk. The Fortune Valley Hotel & Casino has the largest blackjack / poker room in Central City. Midnight Rose has the largest in Cripple Creek to my knowledge.

Black Hawk, Colorado is the largest and most flashy of all the towns. It's historic downtown is intact but the big casinos have all but ignored the historic guidelines it seems. Naturally if you had to compare one of the three Colorado gaming towns to Vegas, Black Hawk would be it. (but all Colorado gambling is different than Vegas).

Black Hawk's largest casinos are the Isle of Capri, The Lodge, Mountain High, Mardi Gras and the Riviera. All of the other casinos more or less are housed in their original historic mining buildings left over from the gold rush or have at least kept the old west feel to their buildings.

If you drive less than one mile up the road to Central City, Colorado you'll find a great little hide-away. Central City has all the amenities of Black Hawk but no crowds. Plus Central City really is a cool place to be. Home to the Central City Opera, the Teller House and other historic places Central City is a family pleaser (over 21)....

Please make sure to visit Cripple Creek, Colorado, which is expanding quickly too. Two new casinos in Cripple Creek to start off the new year. Wild Horse & Gold Creek as mentioned above.

Online we have the birth of the Colorado Gambling Forum which finally bridges (or hopes too) the communication gap between patrons and casinos. Make sure you visit the gambling forum and signup to enter monthly prizesplay free casino games and more.
