Online Sportsbetting

With the crackdown by the United States government, it has become impossible for players to fund their bankroll for these types of websites through traditional means, requiring them to utilize all manner of third-party workarounds and deal with insane amounts of hassle just to compete at these types of sports betting websites. With the gaming and gambling establishments that are popping up all over the Internet, it has become more and more common to cut down on the abilities of these types of websites to generate profit from the online players who flock to the online sports books that are so popular and provide such a tremendous level of competition for so many players. This is the intention of the United States government from the beginning, to keep any type of revenue from being generated at these types of sports gambling and sports betting websites due to the simple fact that they have eliminated any chance that they could ever profit from this activity.

With the effect that these types of sports betting websites have had, it is not surprising to see the United States government poking its nose in and trying to find any possible method of slowing down or completely eliminating the revenue that is generated through these types of websites. In the past, the United States government shot itself in the foot and made it impossible to collect revenue from these types of gaming and gambling establishments. With the extraordinary popularity of the sports betting websites on the Internet, it is not uncommon to see so many players flocking to the Web to wager on their favorite teams. With this popularity, it is increasingly odd that these types of websites have been generating tremendous levels of revenue for quite some time. Naturally, the government does not allow this type of revenue generation without seeing some form of profit for itself and has to crack down on these types of facilities.

With the tremendous amount of difficulty that is involved when players who try to wager on their favorite teams in these online sports books, it is not surprising to see so many players refusing to participate due to the extraordinarily difficult lengths that they are required to go through. Naturally, without any way to generate revenue, the United States government does not want these types of establishments to continue operating in definitely and has done everything it can to stop them from succeeding. With this effort to eliminate the player’s ability to gamble on the Internet on their favorite teams, it has become abundantly clear that players have made the sports betting websites their home for these types of wagers.

Best Top Online Gambling Information Resources

Poker, black jack or any other casino game with a real fancy name, any lay man acquainted with the web knows that these are only a click away. Online gambling industry today is one with the highest growth rate. However which site to choose is definitely the biggest problem that one faces when seriously thinking about gambling online. With sites by the dozen offering “online gambling” there are other hundred offering you to start your own site, the scene can get a lot confusing.

Though site offer all traditional card games like poker and black jack and other casino games like roulette and slot machines, but the roots of internet gambling still centre around sorts betting and horse racing.

The concept is quite sensible considering that not everyone is comfortable with the terms and other nitty gritty of various dice games, while the picking the scores of a super bowl game is relatively easier.

According to various stats as published in Sports Illustrated sports betting touched as much as 1 billion $ which is 10 times the figures placed with traditional Nevada sports books. Betting on horses is also hugely facilitated by theses sites as while all major races are broadcasted on major television channels and other programmes cover highlights of the races, but getting on the tracks can get difficult, if you do not live in a state where the tracks are located.

While the federal wire act1961 made it illegal to use telephone to place bets, thus driving the prospective gamblers from other states out of luck, however the arrival of internet on the horizon changed the scene.

Popularity gained by poker in the recent years has been another reason for the success of online gaming in the recent years. Te success of the Travel Channel’s World Poker Tour program and ESPN’s World Series of Poker, have pushed other channels also to start airing these shows.

Poker though may easily be the most successful online gamble game but sites are trying to popularise the real games like black jack and slots by vigorous advertising which includes bulk email advertising. The emails sent by GoldenPalace.com, one virtual casino offers as much as 58 casino games, meanwhile offering chat rooms and other premium services.

Interestingly online betting is not the only way to spend money. There are industry sites such as the River City Group, based in Missouri open for subscription starting from$245.Those not ready to spend money right away there are fee software to be downloaded to play poker or other games. There also are free practise areas to learn and play for free. However the catch lies in the fact that success in these free areas are a sure invitation to the real gaming world, where however winning is not so easy. The odds might be against you but in the world of software tricksters it’s always easy to make a winning way out. So online gambling in fact a contest between the owner and the player. But in either case it’s the winner who gets it all.

My Top 10 on the Road to Churchill Downs

There’s less than seven weeks to the 134th Kentucky Derby so I guess it’s time to roll out my initial list of the Top 10 for America’s Greatest Race.

Only one thing is certain at this time – no sibling of a Derby champ will wind up in the winner’s circle on the first Saturday in May. Quite a few sires of this year’s contenders ran and some were competitive, but all lost.

So here we go, Dave Letterman style, from the bottom:

10. Big Brown: Some handicappers are hailing this son of Boundary as the hot horse after he ran a mile faster than Cool Coal Man and War Pass on the Fountain of Youth (FOY) card last month. The average winning margin is just two starts is a whopping dozen lengths. Gulfstream Park’s Florida Derby will determine his legitimacy.

9. Fierce Wind, Smooth Air and Denis of Cork: All three at the last minute skipped designated preps this month for various reasons. Fierce Wind, winner of the Sam Davis Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs, and Smooth Air, the third-place finisher, are scheduled for Gulfstream’s headliner. Southwest Stakes victor Denis of Cork, son of ’02 Derby favorite Harlan’s Holiday that ran seventh, bypassed the Rebel and will point to next month’s Wood Memorial at Aqueduct or the Illinois Derby at Hawthorne.

8. Colonel John or El Gato Malo: They renew their rivalry in April’s Santa Anita Derby after running 1-2 in the Sham. No matter who wins both horses are at a definite disadvantage having only raced on synthetic surfaces en route to Louisville’s dirt track.

7. Elysium Fields or Court Vision: The FOY runner-up and third-place finisher are headed to the Florida Derby on March 29 making it a crowded, key prep. Court Vision, 3-1-1 in 5 starts, did well considering the son Gulch had an awful ride during a terrible trip. Two Florida Derby winners in the 21st Century scored at Churchill Downs: Barbaro in ’06 and Monarchos in ’01.

6. Georgie Boy: Victories in the San Vincente and San Felipe propels the son on Tribal Rule to chief contender on the West Coast and the likely favorite if he opts for the Santa Anita Derby over the Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn, which would be his first race on the dirt.

5. Big Truck: Runner-up to Fierce Wind in the Sam Davis at Tampa Bay Downs punched his ticket to Louisville with a victory in the Tampa Bay Derby.

4. Cool Coal Man was 2 for 2 at Gulfstream, including the half-length victory in the FOY. But trainer Nick Zito has opted for the Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland instead of the Florida Derby as the final prep for the son of Mineshaft. The last FOY winner to capture the Kentucky Derby was Thunder Gulch in ’95 who ran fourth in his final prep – the Blue Grass.

3. Visionaire: Exits the Gotham with a nose victory on the sloppy Aqueduct surface after finishing third to Pyro in the Risen Star. Next outing: Illinois Derby or Blue Grass.

2. War Pass: The ’07 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile champ had a slight fever before Tampa Bay Derby Day. He was restless in the gate, broke fourth, failed to get the lead, was bumped on both turns and wasn’t asked to pick it up in the stretch, running seventh and last. “He scoped clean after the race,” Zito told Brisnet.com. “He seems fine although he did have some cuts on his left leg when he came back that he probably sustained when jostled around leaving the gate.”

Final prep: the Wood at Aqueduct where the son of Cherokee Run won his first two starts as a 2-year-old.

1. Pyro: He hopes to turn the tables on his nemesis. The son of Pulpit, who captured the ’97 FOY and Blue Grass before running fourth at Louisville, lost three times last year to War Pass. This season he posted two come-from-behind wins at Fair Grounds, the latest by three lengths in the Louisiana Derby. He faces stiffer competition in the Blue Grass, but a victory likely makes him the favorite at Churchill Dows.

PayPal, eBay Back Goodlatte

Online auction company eBay, and its online payment service, PayPal, are backing Rep. Bob Goodlatte's, R-Va., Internet Gambling Prohibition Act, despite PayPal's growing involvement with the online gambling industry.

Brian Bieron, senior director, federal government relations for eBay, sent a letter to Goodlatte, dated March 14, 2006, commending him and his staff for introducing "commonsense legislation" to combat illegal Internet gambling in the United States.

Further, the letter states that the most effective solution to the problem is giving law enforcement the power to prosecute citizens who participate in illegal gambling.

Despite holding these views, PayPal has made deals in recent months with two online gambling companies to provide them with payment services. At the end of February, PayPal's European division began permitting customers of betting exchange Betfair to deposit and withdraw funds via its service. In March, PayPal Europe announced the same services for Ladbrokes customers.

PayPal has stated very clearly, however, that it will not do business with companies that take bets from the United States.

One theory from an industry source familiar with the legislative situation is that eBay is kowtowing to Goodlatte because of his position in Congress.

"It is true that Rep. Goodlatte chairs the Congressional Internet Caucus," said the source, "so a Net-based company like eBay would probably be inclined to be deferential to him."

The source added that PayPal's volatile past with New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer may also be part of the reason for its allegiance to Goodlatte and the government.

"When eBay and PayPal merged, Eliot Spitzer really roughed them up for PayPal's having processed payments for the Internet gambling industry. They are being contrite," the source said.

Prior to merging with eBay in 2002, PayPal was investigated by Spitzer for processing payments for online gaming companies taking bets from New York citizens. In exchange for Spitzer's office dropping the investigation, PayPal ultimately agreed to pay a US$200,000 fine and to stop processing online gambling transactions involving consumers in New York

The company stopped processing online gambling transactions altogether (regardless of where the merchants and/or consumers were located) in November 2002 and held this policy until signing the deal with Betfair.

Bieron did not respond to attempts to get his comments on his company's support for the Goodlatte legislation.

There are some apects of the internet and gambling online that could increase the risk of developing a gambling problem. These are:

  • The ability to gamble 24 hours a day in your own home
  • The increased risk of exposure and access by children
  • The absorption of computers, leading people to lose track of time whilst gambling

Colorado Casinos & Gambling

Colorado had indian gaming long before it passed a limited stakes gambling bill in 1991 that allowed limited stakes gaming ($5 maximum bet limit) in the historic gold mining towns of Blackhawk, Central City and Cripple Creek.

In the beginning everything seemed good natured about preserving the historic districts and bringing in an economy. Well there certainly is an economy there now but many will question how much history has been preserved within.

Colorado casino gambling is growing by leaps and bounds. There is Estate Gamble Port Real Wa everyday. There is always expansion in one of the gaming towns someway or another.

Already in 2004 we have seen the opening of two casinos in Cripple Creek – the Gold Creek Casino and the Wild Horse Casino.

There are now rumors of a new Indian Casino, first dubbed "The Cheyenne Apache Homecoming Project," moving it sights to Central City as that town begins to finish up their direct exit off of Interstate 70.

Harveys Wagon Wheel Hotel & Casino has long since become Casino Gamble New slot.

The Isle of Capri Hotel & Casino has now purchased Colorado Central Station and is currently building a new hotel and parking garage between the two which current rumor has including a pedestrian bridge to link everything together.

The Gilpin Hotel Casino has a new face. Doc Holliday's Casino in Central City has moved to the Old Glory Hole Casino building... Never a dull moment in Colorado casinos!

Gambling Corporation Prefers Fiction Over Fact

The Taylor Policy Group, which writes promotional material for the gambling industry, released a "study" last week claiming that the Seneca casino operations have benefitted the Western New York economy. The Taylor report says that Seneca cigarette and gambling operations together had a $588 million impact on WNY GDP for 2005.

George M. Palumbo, chairman of the economic and finance department at Canisius College, refuted this claim. In regard to gambling revenue, he pointed out that true economic impact would be money coming from outside the area. Palumbo noted that 86 percent of Seneca Niagara's gambling revenue comes from Western New York.

The Taylor report, paid for by the Seneca Nation, is part of an ongoing public disinformation campaign waged by gambling interests. In 2005 , the Seneca Nation produced a report with similar specious claims. That report stated that Seneca casinos generated $100 million in revenue to New York State, and $72 million in payroll during 2004. Omitted was the fact that at the same time over $300 million in gambling losses came out of the pockets of local residents.

In 2006, the Seneca Gambling Corporation commissioned a puss-poll produce a biased survey outcome on public attitudes toward a casino.

It is not surprising that a recent audit by the State Comptroller has raised serious questions about the Seneca Gambling Corporation's business-reporting practices.

Politicians and political hacks often become entwined in the propaganda game. In 2005, Charles Gargano, chairman of Empire State Development (and a casino promoter with a shady past), commissioned a "study" of the Seneca Niagara Casino's impact on the City of Niagara Falls. The research work was done "in partnership with Gaming & Resort and Development Inc." --- a propaganda arm of the gambling industry.

"Experts" can also be found and bought by casino interests. In 2005, Harvard University cast aside objectivity to carry out industry-funded "research" that delivered pro-casino results.

The abuse of information media by misrepresentation and pseudo-research was explored here in an article entitled "Propaganda Masquerading as News".

The casino interests can pay to plant distortions in the news. Fortunately, to tell the real casino story, we have a wealth of public testimony, as well as the scientific findings of professionals like Dr. John Kindt, of Illinois, Dr. Earl Grinols, of Texas, and Tom Grey, Former Director of the National Coalition Against Legalized Gambling. These people do not reap any monetary reward for their efforts.
